The all-season tourism and recreation complex Arkhyz in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic serves as a launch pad for the tourism cluster. Over two years of operation, the resort has become a popular holiday destination for tourists from South and North Caucasus Federal Districts and other regions of Russia. Arkhyz was visited by over 200 thousand visitors, according to the accumulated total since December 2013. According to opinion polls, more than 98% of visitors declared their willingness to return to Arkhyz and assess their satisfaction with the resort, its accommodation and food, the quality of services, the conditions for family rest at the level of 80-90%. The tourist flow of the resort at the end of 2020 is estimated to reach 445 thousand tourists.
Arkhyz ATRC features one of the longest ropeways among the Russian ski resorts. The performance of the gondola lift with 8-seat gondolas is 2,400 persons per hour. Besides, the chairlift and the children’s conveyor lift are operating. The slopes are equipped with snowmaking and lighting systems. After one more ropeway and three ski slopes are commissioned by the 2015/2016 season, the total traffic capacity of Arkhyz lifts will reach 6,600 passengers/hour, and the length of the slopes will be about 14.5 km.
The accommodation infrastructure of the resort is represented by two hotels: Romantik-1 and Romantik-2, having 209 beds in total. In 2015-2016, more than 600 beds in various price categories will be put into operation.
Arkhyz resort develops as an all-season recreation zone. In winter season, the resort offers a service center, mountain ski equipment for hire, and a locker room. In summer, the resort provides tent camp, rope adventure park, climbing rocks and walls, outdoor swimming pools, bikes and segways for hire.
The long-term development of Arkhyz ATRC involves the construction and operation of five tourist villages: the existing tourist village Romantik, and four more sites: Lunnaya polyana, Pkhia, Dukka and Dukka-2000, which are united by a common infrastructure, logistics and a set of tourist offers intended for all categories of visitors.
The total capacity of Arkhyz will include 58 lifts and 137 ski slopes of different categories of complexity. 60% of them will be “green” and “blue” slopes designed for beginner skiers.
Nine residents of the SEZ - small and midsize companies - have already become investors in commercial, hotel and entertainment infrastructure of the resort. In the period of 2010-2014 the volume of investment made by investors, including residents of the SEZ, amounted to RUB 951 million. The planned volume of investment made by residents of the SEZ for the period of 2015-2020 is estimated at about RUB 8 billion.
